The St. Regis Le Morne, an ultra-luxury Marriott property in Mauritius with 172 suites and a 30-butler team, uses chatlyn to run guest messaging over a single WhatsApp Business number. WhatsApp Business only allows 5 simultaneous device logins, which made it impossible for 30 butlers working in shifts to share one number directly. chatlyn sits on top of WhatsApp as a multi-user inbox: every butler logs in from the chatlyn mobile app or browser, messages are auto-routed to the butler assigned to that suite, and internal notes carry context across shift handoffs. One automated message fires when a guest scans an in-suite QR code, it greets them and asks for their suite number, which triggers the routing. From that point on, every reply is written personally by the butler. No templates, no AI.
Scale WhatsApp beyond device: WhatsApp Business caps logins at 5 devices, which made it impossible for 30 butlers working in shifts to share one number. The resort needed every butler to have simultaneous access from their own phone or browser.
Route every message correctly: With butlers assigned by suite, incoming messages had to reach the right person automatically, and stay in context during shift handoffs so nothing slipped through.
Keep every reply personal: The St. Regis butler tradition dates back to 1904, and the resort wanted technology to support human service, not replace it. The goal was to automate only the initial welcome trigger and leave every subsequent message to be hand-written by the assigned butler.
