SiteMinder, the world’s leading hotel distribution and revenue platform, has unveiled SiteMinder’s Changing Traveller Report 2025, the largest survey globally on accommodation, revealing that 93% of Singaporean travelers—who hold the world’s ‘most powerful passport’—plan to travel abroad in 2025. This is significantly higher than the global average of 72%, making Singaporeans the most likely to travel internationally among those SiteMinder surveyed.

The report, based on the survey of over 12,000 respondents across 14 major tourism markets, including Singapore, shows that 31% of locals intend to travel both domestically and internationally next year, 61% intend to travel only internationally and just 7% intend to travel solely domestically. These plans reflect the rise of the 'everything traveler'—a new, multifaceted guest blending trending and traditional behaviors as travel dynamics shift.

SiteMinder’s data shows that 29% of Singaporeans plan to travel to Japan in 2025, with Gen X (ages 44-59) leading in interest at 34%. Malaysia ranks as the second destination of choice, with 28% planning to visit, especially popular among Baby Boomers (ages 60-78) at 36%. China comes next at 22%, drawing the highest interest from Millennials (ages 28-43) at 24%. For Gen Z (ages 18-27), South Korea is a highlight, with 19% planning to visit—6% above the average for Singaporeans.

SiteMinder’s findings also highlight that Singaporeans will increasingly prioritize indulgence in their 2025 choices. They are twice as likely to book a luxury hotel stay (32%) compared to the global average, second only to Chinese travelers. Additionally, one-in-three are willing to pay more for a late check-out, 9% above the global average, and 44% consider baths one of the most important room features—more than any other traveler surveyed.

Further insights relating to the Singaporean traveler include:

  • They are among the least likely to travel by themselves in 2025, with just 9% planning solo trips. Instead, 44% will travel with family, compared to 36% globally, and 20% intend to travel with friends, outpacing the global average of 15%.

  • They are discerning consumers with high expectations and a strong understanding of market dynamics. For instance, nearly 3-in-5 (57%) have abandoned an online booking due to a poor digital experience, highlighting their demand for seamless online interactions. However, 71% agree that hotels should be able to adjust their prices during busy periods, with just 6% disagreeing, indicating an understanding of the challenges businesses face.

  • Finally, 88% are open to using AI at some stage during the planning or experiencing of their hotel stay, above the global average of 78%, with 94% of Singapore’s tech-savvy Gen Z indicating interest.

SiteMinder’s chief growth officer, Trent Innes, says the research confirms the need for technology to meet the demands of an increasingly multifaceted traveler next year.

“In an era where guests hold increasing influence over their stays, it’s clear that their evolving needs are both broad and deeply specific. The everything traveler embodies a bold new standard, with the flexibility to pivot between impulsive and considered decisions, international and local travel, and a clear demand for control,” says Innes. “Our research signals to hoteliers that accommodating these nuanced preferences isn’t just about adapting to a trend—it’s about committing to a deep understanding of how specific traveler preferences and behaviors are changing, and keeping a finger on the pulse as they do. In this landscape, data-driven insights become critical for hoteliers to anticipate guest needs and deliver the stay they envision.”
