What do you like most?
As the owner of two Days Inn properties, I’ve seen firsthand how much smoother check-in has become since we implemented Canary. The process is faster and more organized, which is especially valuable on busy nights with a high volume of arrivals. Our front desk team spends less time on paperwork and more time welcoming guests. Guest communication has also improved significantly. Being able to message guests directly before and during their stay helps us answer questions quickly, set expectations, and resolve issues before they escalate. On top of the operational benefits, Canary has helped us capture incremental upsell revenue that we were previously leaving on the table. Offering upgrades and add-ons through the platform is simple for guests and requires no extra effort from our staff. Overall, Canary has made our team more efficient, improved the guest experience, and contributed to our bottom line. I’d recommend it to any hotel operator looking to modernize their front desk.
What do you dislike or think could be improved?
While Canary has been a great addition to our operations, a few enhancements would make it even more effective for our front desk team: 1. Save partially completed registration cards It would be very helpful if partially completed registration cards could be saved and accessed by the front desk. When a guest completes most of the registration in advance but doesn’t finish the payment step, staff could simply collect payment at arrival rather than restarting the process. This would further reduce check-in time, especially during peak hours. 2. “Keep on File” and “One-Time Use” options for credit card authorizations Adding the option to designate a credit card authorization as either “Keep on File” or “One-Time Use” would be a valuable feature. This would be particularly useful for local negotiated rate (LNR) accounts and returning guests, eliminating the need to collect a new authorization for every stay and making repeat business easier to manage. 3. Improve the data flow between Arrivals and Pre-Arrival Currently, completed submissions do not move to Pre-Arrival when no clean rooms are available. Those submissions then remain in Arrivals and do not switch over, even after clean rooms become available. A refresh or automatic update that moves completed and partially completed submissions from Arrivals to Pre-Arrival as room status changes would keep the workflow accurate and prevent staff from having to track these guests manually. Implementing these improvements would make Canary even more efficient for high-volume properties like ours, and we look forward to seeing the platform continue to evolve.
