Strong property-level reporting, but the interface feels dated

What do you like most?
M3 gives us strong reporting and visibility into property-level financials, which is essential for managing hotel accounting across managed properties. Being able to pull accurate, timely reports makes month-end review and variance analysis more efficient, and it helps us quickly see how each property is performing against expectations. This visibility allows us to identify unusual trends, coding issues, or missing activity earlier rather than after the period has closed. For hotels, where revenue and expenses can shift quickly with occupancy, seasonality, and events, having reliable financial data readily available supports better decisions at both the property and corporate level. It also makes conversations with property staff and ownership more productive because everyone can work from the same numbers.
What do you dislike or think could be improved?
M3 does not require a separate poster and reviewer for journal entries. Without that requirement, the same person can prepare and post a journal entry with no independent review. For hotel accounting, where property staff often have limited headcount, a built-in approval step would strengthen segregation of duties and reduce the risk of errors or unauthorized entries reaching the books. A configurable setting that requires a different user to review and approve journal entries before they post, with a clear audit trail of who prepared and who approved, would make the product stronger and raise my rating. In addition, the user interface feels outdated. Navigation is less intuitive than in more modern accounting platforms, and finding specific screens, reports, or transactions can take more clicks than it should. A refreshed, more modern interface with cleaner layouts, easier navigation, and better search would improve day-to-day usability, reduce training time for new property staff, and lower the chance of user error. Finally, exports are provided in the older Microsoft Excel 97-2003 format (.xls) rather than the current .xlsx format. This creates compatibility warnings, requires extra steps to convert files before analysis, and limits the size of the data sets that can be exported and worked with, since the older format caps worksheets at 65,536 rows and 256 columns. Native .xlsx exports would make it much easier to analyze, sample, and review hotel financial data.
