If you only list your property on one channel, then using a channel manager isn’t necessary. But if you list on several platforms, then I highly recommend implementing a channel manager for several reasons. First, you’ll save considerable time by letting the channel manager make all of your updates to rates and availability across multiple platforms. Not only will you save time, but you’ll reduce the risk of manual error (imagine re-typing the same rates into 4 different calendars, a mistake is bound to happen) and prevent getting double bookings. Your channel manager can also help you list your property on channels you may not have considered, like international or niche platforms. Listing on more platforms generally increases your potential revenue, since you’ll have more people viewing your listings. And your channel manager can reveal insights and analytics that help you make the most of each channel you list on, like showing you areas where you have an opportunity to improve your content.
Not all channel managers are created equal, so I suggest shopping around to find the one that works best for you. You’ll want to consider factors like cost, user-friendliness, availability of customer support, and the available integrations with distribution platforms and other tools, like property management systems. A quick way to narrow down potential channel managers for your business is to see which channel managers integrate with your PMS. This integration is essential because your channel manager must be able to grab rates and availability from your PMS and send reservation details back to your PMS. If Airbnb is a big part of your business, you’ll also want to find a channel manager that has a robust Airbnb connection. Airbnb allows channel managers to build functionality to support not only content synchronization, but also actions like alternations and guest reviews. When your channel manager can handle more tasks for you, then you need to log into the Airbnb dashboard less frequently and can save time managing this platform.
